    oh hey...!
I should be updating, so I'll start doing that.

Spent the last couple of days in Minneapolis, it is a really neat city. Granted, it is the first city I have been in since Seattle so may have just been really excited. It has a neat feel and seems small enough that navigating it doesn't seem overwhelming (very walkable/bikable) but is large enough that you still get neat bars and excellent food (probably shopping too, but we didn't check that out.) The area we stayed in was full of big older houses that had been converted into multi-family units, something I personally love. It also seemed like a working class city, with a large population of students. The downside? we were told that once it snows, the snow stays around all winter. Days of 40 below freezing are common enough. The downtown area features a maze of skyways that bridge buildings above the street level so that one could go to work, shop, go out for food, etc. all without touching the snowy/cold streets below. Store fronts also spring up on the second level, making for a mall type feel. This might be commom enough in midwestern cities, as Duluth also has them. It is a neat enough system. We are terrible babies when it comes to winter weather on the west coast!

"I have a dream that one day.. I'll be so lazy.. I won't even cut off slices to eat, I'll just take bites from the cookie dough tube and while I'm doing this, I'll be wearing a stained wife beater, drinking beer, and circling want ads out of the paper.. basking in the glow of my infomercial-showing-tv"

    It is hot, weah.

I don't want to go to work tomorrow, but I will get through it. Only 10 more shifts left.

19 days until we leave, aahhh. Started collecting our gear in the spare bedroom.. I think we've got just about everything. I need a few more clothes stuffs, but otherwise I'm nearly set.

    Crossing my fingers.
    Ugh!
I have spent months fashioning secret plans. Today they suffered a (hopefully) minor setback.

Made me realize if these particular plans fall through, my life will change completely.

Actually, if they work out it'll be entirely life altering as well. Scary stuff.

"I am losing the precious days. I am degenerating into a machine for making money. I am learning nothing in this trivial world of men. I must break away and get out into the mountains and learn the news."

Oh dang, it is my "friday" and it is a lovely day plus I just came home from work to my two favorite people and an ice cold 40. Hurrah!

I have crazy ideas in my head for the future. I hope they work out.

    I feel pretty complete lately.

I am heading back from another mini vacation, whee! Headed down to San Francisco and the surrounding bits. Got to see Stephen for the first time in a number of years and today we checked out Winchester mystery house. Not really looking forward to my return to work tomorrow and the lack of mini escapes scheduled for the future.. But oh wells. Okay, enough hogging Rachel's blackberry for the moment. Should be home in about 9 hours! Yay!

Dang, I haven't posted in a while. I've been busy lately, and have been spending a lot of time across the water.

I have been enjoying the post holiday slow down at work and gone on a few small road trips.

Also just got back from a mini-vacation spent hiking in the Redwoods, so amazing. I would love to get back there for some camping and further hiking this summer. Anyone interested?

Good times, yay! Okay bedtime now!

Doing their part in fixing the american economy.
Rachel got a sweet new car on Sunday. Her old car is still stuck at work, haw. I am totally jealous of it, but at least she'll let me ride in it sometimes. I would like a new car too, but the model I have my eye on is going through a re-design and I want to see what the new body style will look like before I commit.

My Step-father, Ray, just bought the fanciest bike ever. It's basicly a pro bike, carbon fiber everything (minus wheelset) and it weighs in at 15 pounds. He is all kinds of serious now. Which means it's on, and training for the 2009 biking season starts now. I picked up a new rear tire that was specially made to be used on a trainer and it is awesome, I've logged 25 miles since yesterday.

I am making my new years resolution early this year: In 2009 I will not get my ass kicked by my mom.

    Seems simple enough, right? hark.

    YAY!

Washington has mostly switched to mail-in ballots, which makes me really sad. I miss the romantic/social/community connection-y feeling I got from public poll places. So, rather than mail mine, I decided to wait until today and drop mine off in person at the ballot drop for our county. Not exactly the same as returning to my old elementary school library where I cast my first vote to the congratulations of the cheery and helpful volunteers and also witnessed countless elections both as a student and by shadowing my parents... but at least I got a sticker*!

*note, my sticker is actually fancier than the one pictured. I just yoinked this from google images.

    I lost $3000 yesterday.

I know it is tiny in comparison to the amounts that countless others lost and I am nowhere close to retirement age anyhow.

But to me this is a staggering amount.

    technology
So I am riding in the car right now.We are on the way back from a day trip to bellingham. I recently got a new cell phone and have discovered that it handles interwebs pretty well. I was doing a bit of browsing when it struck me, this bargin deal cell phone loads pictures quicker and has a -much- better resolution than the 386 that my family used until my senior year in high school.

    Best Season Evar!
I tend to avoid most fruits and vegetables (although I am working on adding more to my diet) but I eagerly await the arrival of honeycrisp apple season. Nice and firm, tart yet sweet. They tend to be a bit more expensive than other types, but they are so damned good. If you haven't had one, try 'em.

They are also Olive's favorite treat food, she will happily go through her whole battery of tricks in order to get a slice.

jibbery style oinkery that don't make no sense a'tall.
Vegas vacation is booked! Hurrah for last minute deals. Airfare, 4 nights hotel on the strip, and a rental car for $390 each.
We are planning on taking a road trip to the grand canyon while we are there and I am looking up shows and vegan places to eat. I am excited to get out of town for a few days!
